In the area of Kavadarci Municipality, near the village of Konopiste (1, 5 km southwards), there is a very interesting geomorphologic structure - natural phenomenon composed of terrestrial pillars - terrestrial pyramids), covering an area of 70 ha, representing outstanding and very rare shapes of intensive soil erosion. The structure is situated inside a short dry dale on the right bank of Bosava, at 740 m above the sea level.




The Konopiste Municipality is one of the rare beauties of Macedonia. The place offers satisfaction of the soul and breathtaking sights that remain in visitors' memories. The nature in this area has been exceedingly generous. Konopiste Municipality is one of the largest municipalities in Macedonia covering an area of 60,000 hectares, 43,000 of which are forested with high trees (black and white pine trees, fir trees, beech and oak trees are most usually seen). Geographically, the municipality covers the Vitacevo Plateau, the Bosavica River Valley and the most of Mounts Kozuf and Kozjak. Twenty rivers and two larger lakes (Tikves and Moklis Lakes) that sparkle on the slopes of Konopiste speak of the fact that Kozjak is one of the richest in Water Mountains in Macedonia. The mountainous rivers are genuine pearls amongst the greenness that make the people feel different, purified and proud, just as the rivers are along their course. This nature environment will make you forget your daily responsibilities and stay here long enough to charge yourself with positive energy. Forty species of rare birds live in these areas, which is the reason for the area of Lake Tikves to be included in the list of nature reserves. A colony of bald eagles, one of a kind in Europe, lives here along with various games such as deer, boars, bears, wolfs. Boar and rabbit hunting is only permitted. The arable land (6,000 hectares) is on 400 to 750 meters above the sea level and is perfect for cultivation of grain, vine, tobacco, and fruit. Since the ancient times this land has been abundant in ores. The best known ore deposits are the mines R'zanovo (nickel); Alser (gold, antimony, arsinic), which has lately become very interesting outside Macedonia; Dudica (gold), which has yet to be completely examined and has become subject of interest of a few foreign companies; Arnicko (antimony); Majden (arsinic, dolomite, magnesium, sulfate) Bojanciste and many others. Many other ore deposits are supposed to have existed here but have remained unknown due to the lack of examination. Generally, the area is still one of the least populated ones in the country even though it is one of the richest in natural resources. One will experience special moments during a visit to the 1879 Church of St. Atanas in Konopiste, where you can see icons of saints in real size that can rarely be found elsewhere.

They can be found hidden in the rocky hills of the Kozuf Mountain, southern of Kavadarci, near the village Konopiste. The stone columns are only 20, high above 20 meters and are present in this region for many centuries. Not everybody has heard for the existence of these stone columns, called by the local population Kanjata or Cucki. They are protected as natural monuments. However, the general public is not too aware of them, since there is only a dirt road that leads to the figures, and there aren't any signs on the road. To approach this location first you must cross the river Boshavica. After you cross this river as you have entered a whole new world. The entire terrain is filled with trees and bushes.

The locals say that the figures are splendid in autumn, since the leafless trees open the views towards the figures, stone columns have always been helping those who were incapable of having children.

The first legend has it that everyone who is incapable of having children have to scratch a piece of the columns, then put it into milk, add some honey and drink it. Many people who were having problems have visited this village and the stone columns. The other legend is that the columns are radiating some special energy, so the young couples should have sex in front of them, so the columns can help in the production process.
